THE AEDES DE VENUSTAS STORY CONTINUES
AEDES DE VENUSTAS is turning a new page in the AEDES DE VENUSTAS story with the relaunch of the perfume collection in November 2021.
The relaunch begins with a reintroduction of seven of the existing fragrances: its first, Signature (2012), Iris Nazarena (2013), Copal Azur (2014), Palissandre d’Or (2015), Cierge de Lune (2016), Grenadille d’Afrique (2016), and Pelargonium (2017). The finished works are presented in a re-designed fluted glass bottle marked by peacock blue accents, a matte black insignia-stamped cap, and a sleek yet weighty design that marks the next chapter in the AEDES DE VENUSTAS story. The particular peacock blue shade is a nod to the original location of AEDES PERFUMERY onChristopher Street, the birthplace of the brand and so much of its ethos.

AGRARIA
As interior designers, Agraria founders Stanford Stevenson and Maurice Gibson envisioned fragrant products as essential design elements for their clients‘ San Francisco homes. They felt certain that „No great home is ever completely decorated until it has its most important accessory – home fragrance.“ In addition to the Chinese bowls they filled with Bitter Orange potpourri, they created their first fragrant candle called Balsam, which mingled beautifully with the potpourri. We still make the original Bitter Orange and Lavender & Rosemary potpourris the same way – one box at a time.

Designers of furniture and white ceramics Ivan Pericoli and Benoît founded their company, Astier de Villatte, in 1996 in association with friends and family. Successor to the parisian manufactures of the 18th century, satire de village is now the only major studio to keep the tradition of artisanal ceramic production in Paris alive. In 2000, they opened the boutique at 173 rue Saint Honoré, which also presented their other creations for the home: titanium cutlery, borosilicate glassware and above all the wonderful collection of traditionally printed notebooks. In 2008 they decided to join forces with a big name from the perfume world and together begin creating luxury scented goods. Working with their associates Emilie Massed and Françoise Caron, the star pefumer at Takasago (a Japanese fragrance company) Astier de Villatte’s range of scented products was born.

Marina Sersale was born in Rome, Italy, to an Italian father and an English mother. Through her father she is part of the family that created and still owns the famous award-winning 5-star hotel Le Sirenuse in Positano, on the Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy. Before working with fragrances, she was a documentary film-maker and producer.
Sebastián Alvarez Murena was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to a family of writers, and lived in Spain and Switzerland before settling in Rome, where he has been living for the past 30 years. He is a journalist and an entrepreneur.
At the end of World War II, four brothers of the noble Neapolitan family of Sersale reunited in Positano and decided to offer the world what they had to share: their sense of hospitality and their beautiful 18th century palazzo. Thus was born Le Sirenuse, the luxury hotel and epitome of Italian style since its opening in 1951. In 2004, to celebrate over half a century of style, Le Sirenuse launched its first fragrance, Eau d’Italie, an instant classic that then became the brand name for a collection of exclusive fragrances and body care products.

Escentric Molecules owes its existence to an aroma-molecule that does not exist in nature. Iso E Super was created in a laboratory at IFF in 1973. It remained unknown outside the world of perfumery until the launch of Escentric Molecules, though its elusive presence hovers at relatively low concentrations in the background of many fragrances for both men and women. Among perfumers, it is prized for its velvety, cocooning effect. The visual language of Escentric Molecules reinforces perfumery as science + art. When Etienne de Swardt created his house of perfume in 2006, it was only right and natural for him to give it this name, to honor his birthplace and what it represents. In South Africa, Etat Libre d’Orange, the Orange Free State, was an autonomous sovereign republic that declared independence from British rule in 1854. The name was derived from the royal family of the Netherlands, the homeland of the region’s pioneers. It was a land of staggeringly rough beauty and color and unforgettable smells, a nation of contrasts, strong feelings, and mixed emotions. Fornasetti Profumi was founded by Piero Fornasetti, an Artist, poet, designer, craftsman, printer – there is no one word that defines his unique talent. He was the visionary whose work transformed the decorative arts scene in the 20th century. Revered for his masterful application of two-dimensional art to three-dimensional form, he adapted drawings to objects, furniture, interiors, theatre sets, fashion, magazine covers, and books, deploying humor and poetry in the way he wrapped the illustrations about the objects and spaces.
During his early artistic forays were undertaken against a backdrop of emerging rationalism in architecture and surrealism in art. Classical architecture, the Renaissance and contemporary metaphysical painters such as de Chirico were a clear inspiration, but the carefully crafted motifs that these influences spawned, and the applications Fornasetti dreamt up, defied classification. Tema e Variazioni (Themes and Variations), a series of 500 adaptations of a black and white portrait of the opera singer Lina Cavalieri, became one of his best-known works.

Maria Christofilis is a Seattle native with deep European roots. From the time she was three years old she summered abroad with her family—becoming fluent in Greek and Italian while absorbing European cultures and lifestyles. Since her childhood she has studied, lived and worked in the most romantic cities of Europe.
The Fleur09 story begins.
In 2009, Maria moved to New York City—while living there she met and began working with some of the most celebrated perfumers in the world. Her welcome by this inner circle of distinguished perfumers was highlighted by a personal gift from master perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux, of the prestigious Swiss fragrance house, Givaudan. Named Fleur09 – the essence of the flower, it immediately became Maria’s coveted scent and a personal treasure. And the more she wore it, the more she realized it was a treasure to be shared. Ormond Jayne’s beginnings are far from glamorous, started almost by chance and at the time little more than the passionate hobby of an uncompromising perfectionist. Linda’s interest in perfumery started as a teenager, intrigued by the passion and romance of perfume and perfume bottles. This passion led Linda to her first career, growing and selling flowers by the roadside outside her Cheshire family home. She also learnt to make scented candles and bathing oils from craft sets and courses, and created beautiful scented cushions for birthday and Christmas presents. Spurred on by her own demanding standards, Ormonde Jayne’s breathtaking perfume range was born. Each product is passionately created by Linda and bottled and packaged by hand in her London workshop. The Ormonde Jayne perfumery opened on 30th November 2002 in London’s Old Bond Street.

Les Parfum de Rosine was founded by Marie-hélène Rogeon, who was born into a family of perfume makers and her grand grand father Louis Panafieu was creating Eau de Cologne for the Emperor Napoleon III and a famous Pommade des Mousquetaires for his lacquer like finish moustaches. Very early, she has been fascinated by this world of exquisite bottles, fragrances, flowery labels and silk braid trimmings. In the great houses of perfume where she leads her carrier, she realizes the place of perfume in her life. This rich experience drove her to the creation of her own company, Les Parfums de Rosine, at a period when it was the start for women to get tired of commercial perfumery and to look for real creations and perfumes telling real stories.The main concern of Marie-Hélène Rogeon is to propose beautiful creations, all based on natural essences, and which are immediately understandable and readable. Every component can be recognized all along the evolution of the perfume on the skin.

The Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella was established in Florence in 1221 by Dominican monks who cultivated medicinal herbs in their gardens and used them to prepare balms, ointments and pomades for their convent’s infirmary.
In 1612 Fra‘ Angiolo Marchissi opened the Pharmacy to the public and shortly after the Granduke of Tuscany bestowed upon it the tittle of his Royal Highness‘ Foundry (Fonderia di Sua Altezza Reale ). In the 18th century fame of the products and formulas developed by the apothecary fathers reached as far as Russia, the Indies and China. In 1866, after state confiscation of church assets, management of the enterprise passed for the first time to a layman, Cesare Augosto Stefani, nephew of the last monastic director.
Today, after 400 years of uninterrupted business, tradition is perpetuated and renewed by continuing use of the finest raw materials and by by following the artisanal procedures established by the Dominican monks. Santa Maria Novella products ship only within the United States.
